THINGS YOU SHOULD BRING

Q Whats a good a idea to bring

A Sunscreen.

Deodorant. Surprisingly hard to find in Japan

Bluetooth unit for your helmet. Listen to navigation instructions, jam out to your favourite tunes and chat to your friends on the other side of the world all while riding up some mountain in Shikkoku.

Gopro or similar. A drone if you're really serious about recording your adventure.

Swimwear. You will be seeing plenty of beaches and there's nothing quite so refreshing as a mountain river

Gloves. It can get chilly in the mountains.

On the subject of technology

The internet has become a fundamental element for modern living and you are going to need a way of staying online while in Japan. Unlike most countries Japan does not have a good network of free public networks so you really need your own connection.

There are 3 ways of doing this.

1 We recommend renting a mobile wifi internet device for your trip here.

This is a little router box that fits in your pocket and uses bluetooth to connect to your phone/ipad

This allows wifi connection for up to 5 devices and is perfect for couples who hate being apart.

Japan wireless is the cheapest and has good coverage nationwide. There is also Sakura and Ninja wifi.

2 You can get a data only sim or Esim for your phone. You can hotspot to one other device. This will give you data through your phone Just like at home but through a local carrier.

3 you can go on global roaming with your home carrier. This will send you broke very quickly

or You can go on a full internet detox and live like its the 1980's again.

We use the Calimoto app for navigation. You can download it to your phone when you arrive in japan. There is a free 2 week trial which will be sufficient for the length of your trip. You can then cancel it and pay nothing, or, if you like it you can pay for 12 months membership.
