WHERE WE STAY

Q. Where do we stay?

A. Prepare to be introduced to the very Japanese concept of the business hotel.

These are very reasonably priced western style hotels typically found in the cities and around highway junctions. You will have your own room which will have a bathroom and everything you need such as toothbrushes, razors, toothpaste, soap. They usually have a public bath/onsen and washing machines/dryers for your laundry. The rooms are small by western standards but are comfortable and are always spotlessly clean. They all have air conditioning as standard. There are usually restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Some have free parking, some paid parking and occasionally we have to find parking elsewhere.

They do a breakfast buffet which is a mix of Japanese and western food which may or may not include ice cream or fried chicken. We tend to stay in the big nation wide chains such as APA or Route Inn.

They don’t have bars, restaurants gyms or swimming pools.
